Collection: Kamo Knives

Shiro Kamo is a master blacksmith from Echizen, Japan, renowned for his exceptional hand-forged knives crafted at the Takefu Knife Village, a cooperative he helped establish in the 1970s to preserve the region’s 700-year bladesmithing heritage.
Born in 1958 into a third-generation smithing family, he began apprenticing at 25 and earned the prestigious “Dento-Kogeishi” (Master of Traditional Crafts) title at a spry 45 years of age, reflecting his skill with steels like Aogami Super and SG2 quite early on. As the former president of Takefu Knife Village, Kamo has mentored artisans and elevated Echizen’s status as a knife-making hub, all while forging blades known for their thin profiles, sharpness, and stunning finishes like kurouchi or Damascus. His knives—ranging from gyutos to nakiris—are easy favorites among chefs worldwide. Now in his late 60s, he continues to shape the craft, leaving a legacy of artistry and innovation.
