Collection: Anryu Knives

Katsushige Anryu is a revered fourth-generation Japanese knife maker from Echizen, carrying forward a family legacy that began in the 1870s at Anryu Hamono.
Apprenticing under his father, Katsutoshi, since 1959, he honed his craft over 50+ years, mastering high-carbon steels like Shirogami and Aogami Super to forge blades renowned for sharpness and beauty. As a certified master blacksmith and a founder of the Takefu Knife Village, he’s shaped both exceptional knives and the next generation of artisans. Known for his philosophy—“Iron is alive; it can live or die depending on the blacksmith”—he never rushed, blending efficiency with artistry.

Around 2021, he passed the reins to his nephew and apprentice, Takumi Ikeda, who continues the tradition with the same dedication. Anryu’s knives, prized globally, reflect a timeless pursuit of perfection.
